Addresses :

Noting that, the accident in the Arabian Sea of the recently constructed container ship, the MOL Comfort, could have been caused by a structural deficiency,

Noting that, the shipowner, MOL (Mitsui OSK Lines), has already contacted the shipbuilders concerning this possibility,

Noting that, that the MOL Comfort has 5 sister ships built by the same Japanese shipyard in 2007 and 2008, and that the ships regularly navigate through the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, and Baltic Sea,

Finally noting that, concerning aviation, if an incident arises on a recently built airplane, the entire series would be immobilized until the cause of the problem is identified and remediation measures are implemented,

Concerned that a similar accident, such as the splitting in two of the MOL Comfort, could occur on one of the sister ships; with the lives of the crew, maritime security, fishing resources, and the protection of the environment at stake,

The NGO Robin des Bois requests that the MOL Creation (IMO 9321237), MOL Courage (IMO 9321263), MOL Competence (IMO 9339662), MOL Celebration (IMO 9321251), and the MOL Charisma (IMO 9321249) be held or suspended from navigating in each of your countries’ Exclusive Economic Zones or within the areas that your organization regulates until the aforementioned conditions be addressed.
