MOL Comfort <\/em>disaster (follow up)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fracture of the giant container ship Mol Comfort <\/em>on June 17th, 2013 is turning into total disaster.<\/p>\n

The aft part sank on June 27th, 11: 40 am (local time).<\/p>\n

The attempted towing of the fore part towards the Sultanate of Oman is confronting difficulties which were predictable. The tow wired snapped on July 1st. The fore part is once again adrift and approaching the shores of the Indian subcontinent.<\/p>\n

The total loss of Mol Comfort<\/em> and of her cargo is now most probable. Robin des Bois is following closely the ecological, economical and logistical consequences of the disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Update : July,8th 2013<\/p>\n

<\/em><\/strong>While the towing line had been recovered the previous days and the convoy was heading again towards Oman, a fire broke out on the fore part of the MOL Comfort<\/em> on July 6th. On July 8th, the fire was still not under control despite the efforts of the 3 rescue ships and of the Indian Coast guard vessels arrived on the scene.<\/p>\n
