Grande America: Inventory of Hazardous and Other Materials

Following Robin des Bois’ letter to the Secretary-General for the Sea requesting communication of the list of hazardous and non-hazardous materials loaded on the Grande America, a meeting was held today in Brest at the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture. Below is the list provided by the authorities, which includes more than 1,050 tons of hazardous materials.

Robin des Bois thanks the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture and the Secretary-General for the Sea for releasing this manifest, which is a first in the history of world maritime accidents.

720 tons of hydrochloric acid
85 tons of sodium hydrosulfide [Used, for example, to precipitate heavy metals, for the tanning of hides and as a bleaching agent. Very toxic to aquatic organisms.]
82 tons of sulfuric acid
62 tons of resin solutions
25 tons of prothioconazole [Fungicide. Very toxic to aquatic organisms, causes long-term adverse effects.]
